Google and Facebook refuse to share revenue with news media publishers

Google and Facebook would rather remove news content from their platforms than share revenue with the publishers whose content they feature. Google and Facebook threatened a news boycott in response to The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s initiative to redirect advertising revenue from both platforms to news publishers.

News media publishers blame the tech giants for consuming large chunks of advertising revenue that caused them to face major revenue losses and job cuts. These issues were accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
